We register your ABN and GST directly with the ATO — with the right start date and business structure for your situation. Free when combined with BAS lodgement.
WHO NEEDS AN ABN?
If you earn income as a contractor or through gig platforms in Australia, you usually need an Australian Business Number (ABN) to receive payments and operate legally.
Amazon Flex, Uber Eats, DoorDash and Menulog drivers operate as independent contractors, not employees.
You need an ABN to receive payments from these platforms and report your income correctly.
Uber and DiDi drivers must register for both an ABN and GST from day one, even if their income is below $75,000.
This is a special rule for rideshare services in Australia.
If you provide services like IT support, consulting, cleaning, construction, design or freelancing, you need an ABN to invoice clients and claim business expenses.
Starting a new sole trader business?
An ABN allows you to issue invoices, claim deductions and register for GST when required.
If you earn income from gig apps, you are running a business. You MUST have an ABN. For rideshare (Uber/Didi), GST registration is mandatory from your first dollar. Failing to register can lead to significant ATO penalties.
When Do You Need GST?
If you drive for Uber, DiDi, or Ola you MUST register for GST immediately — regardless of how much you earn. The ATO classifies rideshare as “taxi travel” which has special mandatory GST rules. There is no $75,000 threshold for rideshare.
Amazon Flex, DoorDash, Menulog drivers have different rules — but they depend on your total income across all platforms combined. Many drivers are unsure where they stand.
